Data Collection and Asset Mapping

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County's Food Hub Project Team is developing a producer database for the four counties (Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence and Oswego) participating in the Food Hub Project. The Food Hub team will be conducting on site visits to producers and institutional customers throughout 2017 to collect the data. If you are a producer or institutional buyer please fill out the surveys below that fit your needs.

The Northern NY Food Hub is spatially analyzing agricultural assets in our four county region using GIS mapping. Designing an interactive map both for public and private portals that will layer livestock, produce, dairy, and meat processing in the region. Asset mapping will confirm our diverse and dynamic sector contributes significant benefits to the region and overall economy. In the future, we can use this understanding of agri-food assets in the area and our agri-food value chain to help define the NNY Food Hub Model as it is implemented. We will not post any information publically without an individual’s permission. If you have any questions please contact our Food Hub Program Coordinator at 315-788-8450.

We will also develop a GIS map of Food Hub resources using the data collected and spatial analysis of producers and institutional customers alongside other assets relevant to a food hub such as regional slaughtering facilities in an effort to more clearly identify potential synergies.

The data collected from the multiple 2017 Pilot Projects will help define and/or refine the Go to Market Food Hub Model. Some of this data will be available to producers and Food Hub customers through an online interactive portal.

A secondary outcome of this process is to create a toolkit which should be available by the end of 2017. This toolkit will be made available to all Extension Associations to help collect, map, and analyze local food resources, a critical first step for any local foods intiative.
