Christmas Tree Growers in Lewis County

The holiday season is upon us. Begin your own family tradition by purchasing a Christmas Tree from our local growers. There’s nothing that says Christmas like a real tree! According to the Christmas Tree Farmers Association of New York (CTFANY) taking care of a cut Christmas tree is not as hard as you may think. Who can’t resist the smell of real Balsam and Frasier Fir pine needles? After spending the day picking out the “perfect” tree with the whole family, remember to take it home and cut at least a ¼ inch piece off the bottom of the trunk. Place the tree in warm water as soon as possible and then you can use cold water after the initial drink. Do not allow the water to dry up or this will cause the needles to fall early. Believe it or not, a tree will drink at least one gallon of water the first 24 hours inside and a pint or more every day. It is not recommended to use any type of preservative. To prevent a fire hazard, place the tree away from heat vents, fireplaces, or direct sunlight. Also, it is important to use only UL approved lights and to provide a surge protector extension cord because you do not want to overload the circuits. These tips will help to reduce the chance of your tree getting dry, which will keep it looking fresh and beautiful. As nice as it may seem, never use candles or any other flame-type decorations. Lastly, remember to turn off the tree lights when you are not home or going to bed. So, enjoy the Christmas tradition with family and friends with decorating and creating magical memories. Did you know sheep and goats love to eat recycled trees? For those that do not have a real Christmas tree remember tree farms produce scenic green belts that create wildlife habitats, clean the air, and produce oxygen, making for a healthier planet. If you see a Christmas tree farmer, thank them for a better world!
